Middle school students earn spots in Minnesota State Honor Choir
Twelve middle school students in District 191 have been selected to the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) of Minnesota State Honor Choir. This is the highest honor a middle school choir student can achieve in Minnesota.
Students earning a spot in the 4th-6th grade Honor Choir are Nicollet Middle School (NMS) sixth-graders Sienna Connell, Sy’Ann Davis, Brynnlee Erickson, Madelyn Hertzog, Adina Israel, Janiyah Legg and Liliyah Rodriguez.
Eagle Ridge Middle School (ERMS) seventh-grader Bayleigh Ferrell was selected for the 7th-8th Grade Treble Clef Honor Choir. Fellow ERMS student Beckham Jentz (8th) made the 7th-8th Grade Bass Clef Honor choir, along with NMS students Markus Dick (7th), James Parham (7th) and Daniel Duran (8th).
“I think opportunities like this are amazing because they really help students learn and grow,” said choir teacher Nick McGraw. “Making it [to the Honor Choir] is just a special bonus. I am really proud of these students for pushing themselves, and I am really excited that they were rewarded with this honor!”
Each year, the ACDA-MN organizes seven special honor choir projects to provide enriched singing opportunities for students. More than 2,000 students from across MN audition for placement into the honor choir program.
The sixth-grade students will perform with the State Honor Choirs at a concert on March 29 at St. Michael/Albertville High School.
The seventh- and eighth-grade students will perform with the State Honor Choirs at a concert on April 4 at St. Michael/Albertville High School.
